I'm being followed by an Art Thief: Is she following you?

Hmm... that is selling well, people like that. Wow, it's sort of expensive and I could make that way cheaper. I'll just move this little piece here instead. Oh the original artist is offended? Hey I made this with my hand so it's handmade. Look angry miniature artists, you don't own the idea of a 'magical mandrake table' or other WITCHY concepts. I'm making money and you can't stop me!

Now I'm going to start following all of your blogs and mass advertising my shoddy knock off work and you can't stop me! You can't stop me haha! In fact, I'm going to advertise my work as original, ooak, and truly an expression of my own inner creativity...

Uh-hum... Most of us figure this out as children.

The picture above was taken and submitted to DeviantART by 'skullberries' at http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=§ion=&q=dumb+girl#/d2m8k3z I give her credit, no matter how simple the idea is- because it's HERS! If I were to like this idea so much that I would take a picture of the word dumb tattooed on my own lip, I would be COPYING !!! Then if I were to try selling it on the very same sites she advertises on I'd have just the biggest pair of testicles EVER!

I know who you are.

In fact, we ALL know who you are.

I know how you have blatantly made poor quality copies of work belonging to other miniature artists in the Spooky & Fantasy genre.

I know that you have decided to follow my and many other miniature art blogs recently.

I know that you dress yourself up as a witch.

I am a Witch, lady... and I am pissed off. I do NOT appreciate you following my blog
or pretending to be an original artist.

You have been warned many times in a friendly manner to stop copying other people's work. You have responded with nastiness and distain. You have NO INTEGRITY !!!

Just remember, whatever you do to others will come back to you, whether you call it Karma, Threefold Rule, or the Golden Rule. I support my community of miniature artists and original handmade art. You have lost your place in this and are a tainted HACK.

NOTICE !!!

I only personally follow blogs of original artists that I respect. Just because someone is following my blog, does not mean I support their work or want to be associated with them. As a collector and a creator myself, supporting the artistic community in all mediums is very important to me. I cannot stop someone from following my blog, stealing my pictures, or even physically copying my work. However, I can refuse to buy their work, follow their blog, and put the word out about them in my own artistic guilds and groups.

If you are visitng my blog as a shopper and collector, please consider the fine artists I have provided links for. Their work is a bit more expensive than mass produced items because they put so much time and thought into making them. Unique, One of a kind, Original

This actually means something.

Well Said !!! & very much appreciated that you've spoken out about this blatant ideas thief.
She's following me too :o( normally Im very flattered to have new followers, but in this case, I'm pissed off that she's even looking at my stuff, I am not joining in on any 'witch-hunt', but I have seen her work & worked out for myself that she abuses the word 'artist' and that the majority of her work are not her own ideas.... oh well, if the sad individual really has no originality of her own ....... maybe its time she just admitted what she does, & gave some credit to the original artists idea, then I think peeps would have just a little more respect for her!

I so love this blog. I think I know who your talking about, but I won't give name just in case. I to have just written a blog about almost the same thing, but they actually ask me where I buy my supplies and how did I maked it. So they could copy them to sell. I hope the cold shoulder will make this person stop. Or start charging this person at least a $100 an idea stolen.
Oh, by the way so love the gypsy wagon. You have always been a creative soul. So love it.

It's interesting that I did not provide a name, pictures, or links yet she knew exactly who I was referring to.

Well, she quickly messaged me that I am very rude. She also stated that she had 'worked it out' with one other artist.

You now have her opinion and response. I will not name her nor publish her posts that would identify who she is. Also, there are no links to her sites posted either. This is simply to protect myself from the legal threats that she has hinted at when other artists brought up her habits.

Wise shoppers and the miniature artist community can see for themselves or email each other privately.

Well said! I date and sign my stuff (though I don't sell it) so ANY copies that would be sold by someone else could be proved as being sold as OOAK originals is actually by someone with their pants on fire.
FYI, there is nothing inside the Witch shop as of yet :)

I have to say this. I am not a person to get on the band wagon and target people. I wasn't a mean girl in a clique in school. I don't neighbor. I avoid gossipers and drama queens like the plague. I tend to be a loner and roll around in my own quagmire privately.

I had to speak out about this however. If her feelings are hurt it's because she was wrong. Do you all think that an artist can come back from such an event or reputation? Or is it a done deal?

Very well said and it applies to anyone not just this one person.

I do beleive there is a way we can block followers. Need to go check it out :-)

I've not been copied as yet...maybe they don't like my work lol

Bravo Grimdiva! Debie's right...What goes around, comes around. But forewarned is forearmed and any miniature artist who doesn't know about this, should.

My husband and I where talking about this and here is what we came up with.
Only unless she comes up with her own ideas and be creative and unique will she be more accepted as a true artist.
Old saying, "Be inspired by others, but Be yourself, not others."

aaw that really s****
I have no idea who that gal is (I'm not that much into witchy, also I have some real witches as ancestors - they were burned alive -) but I have a lots of copycats as well so I understand what you're saying.
Maybe should go to an attorney (do you have an attorney friend?) who could write her an official letter (if you have a friend he could make it for free, otherwise it's rather expensive :/)

I hope you get things sorted out sooner or later!

I cant quite beleive the gall of someone who has upset so many can actually sign up as a follower and unfortunatly it appears there is no way of blocking unwanted followers on blogger, ! Trouble is even if you block them they can still look at the blogs to follow peoples WIP and whip ideas and sell as their won, again annoying, but to actaully wind people up by having to have their green faces appear on your page, now thats just rather brazen ! It wont earn her any sympathy which is obviously what she is after from her ' poor old me' posts on her own blog.! I feel that there are many Witches being prepared to get out their wands and spell books and take action lol Kate xxx

Just wanted to show my complete support to those of you who have been copied/stolen. I know the feeling very well and I can totally relate to your complaints. I am quite tired too of the poor excuses these creativity thieves use to defend themselves.

I think this is a problem in all forms of art. I have been in the art world for over 30 years, and it still baffles me. I learned metal engraving from a master engraver in Germany, and although I have his permission, I would never copy his work for resale. I have used some for practice plates. This is theft, of the highest order, how could someone be so inconsiderate as to do something like this. Like you said, it is awesome to be an inspiration to someone, but their is a line. I did scrimshaw for years, until they started to do laser etchings of some artists, it wounded my spirit, and it has been years since I have done any. I hope mother-earth tends to yours. May your head be always full of ideas, and your hands never idle.

I had this thought this morning.

It's such a small number of serious collectors and artists in the miniature community that we do all know each other. This shows how out of touch she is with the hobby and business. She just saw something cute that she couldn't afford, decided to make it and then make a few dollars too. No consideration for the artists whose work she admired. At least contact them and say how much you love it and are trying your own hand.

I personally support the hobby as a whole which only helps my own sales in the long run. The more people we have making unique spooky and fantasy minis, the more interest will be generated. She's just clueless.

Well, she shook the hornets nest again and I'm not seeing any fans on her page. She doesn't just get to reinvent herself and follow us around. She's shopping for ideas, not networking with other artists as a friend or business associate.

About the price of miniatures:

She said something about the high price of miniatures and paying so much for something that is 1:12 scale. She can make them much cheaper. This seems to be her excuse and marketing niche.

I'm sorry but that is not going to work. My prices are mid range. There are those who charge much less and much more for similar quality and themed miniatures. This is up to the individual artist as they decide how much their time is worth, the cost of materials, their specific market, and the margin of profit they expect. Deciding to have lower prices is fine. Making witchy miniatures is fine. Creating lower priced COPIES of other artists is not!

It pains me that now she is following all of the witchy type mini blogs but still not networking or contacting the artists. If she want to reinvent herself and be part of the community, she needs to stop whinning and reach out.

Of course any artist would distrust her lurking based on her past behavior...

Frankly, Grim, she has shot herself in the foot, so to speak. Other than coming up with something fabulous (in terms of originally AND execution) all on her own, what could she possibly do to regain trust? It's only a matter of time before she sees someone's work which she thinks is "over-priced", throws together a shoddy knock -off and puts it up for sale. And it doesn't have to be magical or fantasy...I think anyone is fair game.

Ok...she says she's sorry and won't do it again. At this point all I can say is "we'll see"...
